Cuisinart TOB-165 Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler, White Review

Cuisinart TOB-165 Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler, WhiteI have a toaster oven graveyard out in my dumpster. I was buying name brands and subjecting them to only moderate use, yet we were going through the things faster than pet goldfish.
For my most recent purchase I decided to pay for top quality. I based my purchase decision on my experience with other Cuisinart products and extensive reading of reviews from many sources. I've had my oven for about six months now, and I've been heartily pleased with my selection.
Besides durability, my chief concern in shopping had been size. It turns out this is even bigger than what I had before--both wide and tall. I can fit Corningware pans with the domed lids and knobs on top. Yet the outer dimensions are quite modest.
I wasn't sure I would use the convection feature, and in fact didn't get around to it until last week. It produced an excellent roast chicken, and I probably will use it more and more to make "weekend" dishes during the week. The additional cost for the convection over the regular was small, so it's definitely worth it even for occasional use.
The oven itself functions admirably. I love that it beeps when it's fully preheated, and the heat sensor really does keep it constantly and evenly heated to the correct temperature. I'm using this much more than my regular oven, especially during the summer.
The controls are easy to use and well thought-out as far as flow and intuitive functions. The only thing I'm not crazy about is setting the timer--one press for every minute, one for every hour. Gets to be a pain when you're setting 45 minutes. But, that is balanced out by the fact that the timer alarm keeps beeping until you come turn it off. No one little "ding" that you miss because you've stepping into the other room for a minute, leaving your food to burn.
Toasting is uneven as noted elsewhere, but this is typical of toaster ovens. Adjusting the rack can help. And honestly, it's really only an aesthetic problem. I do like that the toasting fuction includes a countdown timer so you know how long until breakfast!
My only real complaint lies with the broiler pan. Upon first inspection out of the box I was pleased with its apparent quality. But on the very first use it warped, and now buckles significantly on every use. Further, after the first washing I took it out of the drying rack only to discover rust along the bottom edge where water had pooled. I didn't even think it could rust, let alone do it on its first contact with water. I have to think my specific pan is lemon, as for them all to be like this would just be inexcusable in a product of such otherwise impeccable quality.
Also, the design team really fell apart when it came to the oven rack on which this pan sits. The rack--at least in one of its positions--actually wraps around the front corners of the pan. This means in order to take the pan out of the oven you have to lift it 1/2" vertically over the rack. Lift it and whatever's on it, plus whatever hot grease has accumulated, with nothing to grab it by. The other option is to take the rack out with it, which means tilting everything 30 degrees to get it past the stops. Not only is this bad design, it's dangerous.
But since I'm not using the pan every day, and since I love everything else about it, I'll still give it five stars.

Proctor Silex 4-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler - Black (31955) Review

Proctor Silex 4-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler - Black (31955)I wanted a simple toaster oven to make toast and heat up open sandwiches - nothing fancy- nothing expensiveIt was hard to find because everything has a convection oven (which I didnt' need) which drives the price up into a range I didn't want to pay. This oven meets my needs - it toasts well and quickly - fits 4 slices very tightly (is a little smaller/shorter height inside than I expected.)Easy to see the toast due to rounded door design - I think it was worth the money.

Krups Convection Toaster Oven Review

Krups Convection Toaster OvenThis is my first ever online product review but I am so impressed with this product I want to share my positive experience with others.

Having owned cheaper toaster ovens over the years, I was always disappointed with the product quality, reliability and performance. Whilethey all did an OK job of toasting a bagel or reheating a slice of pizza their use was limited, poorly constructed, flimsy and lacking features.

This time I was determined to purchase a quality high end, well constructed unit that not only offered more features but superior performance.

After much research on the web, reading customer/product reviews and doing in-store comparisions between various toaster ovens, I narrowed it down between the Krups FBC2 or FBC4 and the Cuisinart TOB-175C convection taster oven. Inthe end I decided to purchase and try out the Krups FBC2 toaster oven for the following reasons:

1 -The overall design, sleek appearance and most importantly, solid high quality contruction. Just compare product weight. The Krups appears to be more solid and better built, which may account for its added weight.
2 -The illuminated LCD digital controls are very intuitive and easy to use. The temperature adjusts in 25 degree increments proving to be a very fast and convenient feature. While some people might prefer 1 degree adjustments, I don't miss not being able to set it to odd settings such as 314 or 438 degress. 275, 300, 325, 350, 400, 425, 450 etc work fine for me.
3 - The offset grille provides more heating positions for more accurate heating and cooking.
4 - Even with its compact design, it has a slightly larger interior cooking area.
5 - Last and definately not least, I read only positive reviews about the quartz convection heating eliments, and having now used it, I can see why. This oven seems like it heats up almost instantanously with nice and even heat distribution. What an incredible improvement over the much cheaper units I have owned in the past.

I was so impressed with the Krups KBC2 toaster oven, I decided to return it and purchase the more expensive FBC4 model from Amazon because it offered even more features. Believe me, I am not disappointed. While the Krups FBC2 is an equally excellent product, the FBC4 also has:

1- A stainless steel exterior finish which I really like because of itsquality, appearance and durability, especially after reading reviews indicating there were issues with the Cuisinart exterior finish flaking.
2 - The convection oven feature significantly reduces cooking/reheating time.
3 - It has a Bagel toasting setting not available on the FB2 where it toasts bagels on the sliced side while only heating up the crust side.Like other units on the market, the FB2 toasts both sides. While this does a decent job of toasting bagels, the FB4 Bagel toasting feature results in a perfectly toasted bagel every time.
4 - While I have not yet used the defrost feature, I am looking forward to using it since I am not a big fan of microwaves.

In conclusion, I could not be happier with my decision to purchase aKrups toaster oven. The FB4 has definately exceeded my expectations and Ilook forward to using it for many years to come.

Sanyo Space Saving Toasty Oven Review

Sanyo Space Saving Toasty OvenAt 950 watts and with a footprint of less than 1 sq ft, this is especially suited for a studio apartment or for a kitchen with limited counter space and a limited number of electric circuits. It's also a true gem to put in a guestroom breakfast bar, or a vacation cottage, if you are lucky enough to have either one.It works well for an elderly relative in assisted living. (Contrary to what the technical specifications state, this appliance does have an automatic shut-off feature. The timer shuts off after 15 minutes.)

As a toaster, it's relatively slow but it's versatile. E.g., it handles bagels better than a regular toaster, warms up pastries nicely, and you can toast on only one side. On the down side, toasting anything DOES take longer, as another reviewer noted; this may be because it has what appear to be "light bars" instead of metal heating coils or rods.

So, no, it's not a down-sized equivalent of an oven, or even a toaster oven. The temperature control is set in the vicinity of 375 F. You can't broil, but you CAN bake just a few cookies. Whether you use one of the refrigerated rolls of cookie dough, or make your own batch of cookie dough, you can freeze the left-overs or divide the whole batch into in pre-cut portions. Then bake 2-4 cookies while you prepare dinner. (What an aroma, to have them fresh! and no temptation later.) You can also let the kids/grandkids take out a portion, and bake them.

A bonus is that the Toasty also makes superb English muffin pizza--no soggy bottoms, like in the microwave. I also like it for melting cheese on toast. It also reheats a single slice of pizza very nicely.

About replacement pans and clean up: You can buy one of the thinner style silicone baking liners (be sure it's 100% silicone, with no fillers) for a small pan and cut it to size for each of the pans. Clean up is VERY easy then, and since the liners are reusable, it's cheaper in the long run than lining the pans with aluminum foil.

If you are, or have, a handy person around, you can also custom trim a couple of unglazed baking tiles to make your own little pizza oven.

SUMMARY: Downside is that it's slower than a toaster, more limited than a toaster-broiler oven, and a tad pricey. But it's small and it's cute!

NOTE: To find a silicone mat without fillers, just bend it. If it turns white, the mat contains fillers, and it should not be cut.
