Black & Decker CTO6301 Digital Advantage Stainless-Steel 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven Review

Black & Decker CTO6301 Digital Advantage Stainless-Steel 6-Slice Convection Toaster OvenAfter my horrible experiences with the Black & Decker TRO700S 4-Slice Toast-R-Oven, Stainless Steel, I swore I wouldn't buy another Black & Decker toaster oven. But when I was checking out several toaster ovens at Bed Bath & Beyond, low and behold there was this particular model available.Compared to the other models around, this one had the best combination of features and size for the price. The Krups convection oven felt cheaply made, unwarranted for the price. The other oven I considered, a Kitchen Aid convection oven, was very well made and looked great, except it did not have a convection feature and the elements were poorly exposed.I wanted to check out the Sanyo SK-VF7S Digital Convection Oven, Stainless Steel Finish that has been getting great reviews, but unfortunately this store didn't carry it.So, I decided to take a chance on "fool me thrice, shame on me".At least I could take it back to the local store if it didn't work out.

This Black & Decker oven is much better made than the TRO700S.It's also a bit bigger and has more solid feeling controls. It's also digital, so you don't have an annoying ticking sound while cooking. It also seems more robust than the Sanyo, potentially delivering more value for the money.

The Good:Excellent design, versatile tray system, non-stick inner surface, decent crumb guards over the heating elements, great capacity (it'll even accommodate a 12" pizza), wide viewing area, and even cooking. There are a lot of nice functions, including "bagel"--the bottom heats at half the top temperature, so it doesn't crisp the bottom of the bagel too much (nice). The exterior does get hot, like most toaster ovens, and its even worse with a brushed steel surface; however, the right side (where the convection fan is located) tends not to get scalding hot.The BROIL mode works well, despite not having the convection feature functioning. And although the toasting function takes long to work, it does brown the toast evenly.

The Not-so-good:The digital controls are confusing and take some time to figure out.The directions are OK, not great--but you definitely need to read them. The display does not have a clock, as one usually finds on digital appliances, but this is OK--once you realize it.The unit beeps at you when you select a cooking function, and it's rather loud. The convection feature only works in BAKE mode, not BROIL--I found this strange and disappointing. When you use it, there is no count-down indication of toasting progress (unlike with timed cooking/baking); you just have to trust that it will stop at the right time.Lastly, this product is designed more as an oven than a toaster--a single piece of toast takes about 50% longer to toast than in a conventional toaster. However, the workaround is to move the shelf to the upper position and then just flip the toast once it has browned on one side.Only a minor inconvenience. Also, there is no backlight to the LCD display, so if you're cooking at night in low light it's a little difficult to see the display details.

Overall, I give this unit a thumbs up... for now.I trust that since I didn't find any initial defects, it should operate well going forward. It is not a perfect oven, but then it seems NO company out there is bothering to perfect the convection/toaster oven.Sometimes I think I should go into product design, as I see so many flaws that can be easily avoided.Anyway, you won't go wrong getting this oven.:-)

NOTE:I really recommend seeing a toaster oven in person before buying it.This way you can get a sense of how it looks, feels, and operates. It's that tangible experience you just can't get on-line.Also, you can save more buying it in person (I paid $67 with tax, at BB&B with a 20% off coupon). However, if you aren't able to get to a store that has the appliances you're interested in, then you have to rely on what you see on-line.I hope my review helps you in your decision.

Oster 6-Slice Convection Toaster Ovens Review

Oster 6-Slice Convection Toaster OvensGreat little toaster oven w/ lots of options. Possesses wide range of ability - from making toast to baking muffins. The rounded back side of the toaster oven allows for a 9" frozen pizza to be cooked within. Great thinking. Controls are simple, and easy to understand. A superior value for the money.

Room for improvement (reason for 4 stars/not 5):
1. The timer is loud - not obnoxiously so, but one is aware that the oven is on.
2. The design of the handle/glass door. Be very careful when opening the oven door! It is all too easy to touch part of the very hot glass door (burns!) when using the front handle. If you are aware of this - and are careful, is not a problem. Would not want children using this appliance for this reason.

Black & Decker CTO4500S 6-Slice CounterTop Convection Oven with Pizza Bump, Stainless Steel Review

Black & Decker CTO4500S 6-Slice CounterTop Convection Oven with Pizza Bump, Stainless SteelWe bought this toaster about two months ago, after much research. Our old one was a simple, cheap one from Sunbeam, which lasted about ten years until the lever for toast broke.
I never really wanted a "convection" toaster, but I decided to give it a try because I thought it might save energy when baking. It actually does a very fast job at that, much more efficient than the regular oven we used before.
I used the broiler just once so far and it works well.
Toast is very good: crunchy on the outside, moist inside (but that depends on taste). One gripe is with the knobs, which are hard to grab. The design of the knob is especially annoying in the timer, because it just sort of slides to the desired time, there's no way of precisely selecting the position, like a good stereo knob would. We haven't quite found the best spot on the timer for the perfect toast, I'm having to rely on visual clues and often just take the toast out before the timer rings.
The tray is easy to clean and slides out conveniently.
The hooks on the door hinges that make the rack slide out make it difficult to close the door completely - we decided to fold ours in and not use them, so the door closes correctly.
Be diligent when shopping for this item, prices vary widely from place to place and you may overpay.

Chef's Planet Nonstick Toaster Oven Liner Review

Chef's Planet Nonstick Toaster Oven LinerI have a full-size liner in my over, but have to keep it on one of the oven racks rather than in the bottom. It does a good job catching drips and helping to keep the oven clean. So when I saw one sized for a toaster oven, I bought it.I have two problems with this liner. The first is that it doesn't fit my toaster oven. The second (a HUGE problem according to my husband) is that it isn't as reflective as the bottom of the toaster oven so that toast comes out much darker on the top than on the bottom. The main reason I purchased a new toaster oven is because out old one was giving us very uneven results. The new one worked great until we put the liner in.(And took it back out within a couple of days.)I would use this product if I were baking something messy or top-browning something that might drip, but it doesn't work for us for day-to-day use.

Breville BOV800XL The Smart Oven 1800-Watt Convection Toaster Oven with Element IQ Review

Breville BOV800XL The Smart Oven 1800-Watt Convection Toaster Oven with Element IQThe Breville Smart Oven is a must-have kitchen appliance. In many/most cases it can serve as a replacement for it larger cousin the conventional oven/range. However, the Smart Oven is much more energy efficient (using roughly 50% less electricity) and can fit into the smallest of kitchens

Things that we enjoy

+ Depending on the setting (Broil/Bake/Toast) you have the ability to manage the temperature zones in the oven. This helps to ensure perfect cooking depending on you individual requirements.
+ The magnetic door helps to prevent any burns (see video)
+ Door seals nicely - reducing energy waste and the unneeded heating of your home.
+ 9 programmable settings - HOWEVER - you also have the ability to tailor the settings to your individual needs.
+ Nice Stainless steel finish will look nice in all kitchens.
+ Despite being stainless steel the surface of the oven does not show too many fingerprints.
+ Three pans included - Pizza - Baking - Broiling
+ Great operating manual
+ Not just a standard toaster oven - this is also a convection oven!
+ AS A OVEN IT WORKS GREAT

Areas to improve

- The cord is a little short (less than 3 feet) - while many people may appreciate a short cord it does mean that you have to have outlet near a space where you plan to use the oven.
-You may not be able to operate other appliances on your electrical circuit- At full heat the Smart Oven will pull between 15-20 amps - make sure that you have at least a 20amp breaker on the plug that you are using.Final Verdict.... this is an easy 5 stars - purchase with confidence.

Product Description:
Attractively housed in reinforced stainless steel, this 1800-watt convection toaster oven features a 4/5-cubic-foot nonstick interior and Element IQ technology, which provides smarter control over the heat. Choose from nine pre-set functions: Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, Reheat, or Warm; each one comes with its own pre-programmed temperature and cooking time, eliminating the guesswork. The unit's broil function activates just the top heating elements to melt and brown food; its toast function activates the top and bottom heating elements to seal and crisp; and the bake function uses both the top and bottom heating elements, as well as the convection fan, to ensure thorough cooking, inside and out. Instead of the oven's five quartz heating elements having a fixed wattage, however, Element IQ functions much like a dimmer on a light switch, increasing or decreasing the power with a simple turn of the knob. The time and temperature for the pre-set programs can easily be adjusted to accommodate individual preferences--the oven will even remember the new settings for next time.
Thoughtfully designed, the oven's push-button and turn-knob control panel, as well as its blue back-lit LCD screen, makes it effortless to operate the unit and to see the current function, temperature, and adjusts made. Other highlights include fast heat-up times, energy-efficient operation, three rack positions, a wire rack that ejects automatically halfway out of the oven for safe removal of hot items, an embossed and ribbed top surface that can be used as a warming tray, and a front-access removable crumb tray for quick cleanup. Combining durable materials and powerful performance with a strikingly modern design, users will want to leave the oven out on display and conveniently accessible for everyday use. Accessories include a 13-inch non-stick pizza pan, a 12-by-12-inch enamel baking pan, and a 12-by-12-inch enamel broil rack. The oven measures 18-1/2 by 12-1/2 by 10-3/4 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Black & Decker TRO480BS Toast-R-Oven 4-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Black & Decker TRO480BS Toast-R-Oven 4-Slice Toaster OvenWe looked at a number of ovens and wanted something that did the basic things and didn't take up too much space. No convection (we have a convection oven) and no digital - its just a basic appliance. We looked at the B&D 240 but this just seemed too basic and too flimsy. Then we saw this one. It has all the basics, it's a good, small size and its silver / black which matches our kitchen. It has 3 controls (as compared to the basic model w/ 2) making it easy to select temp, function and time. The handle is securely attached to the glass door -the metal ends wrap around the glass so it won't fall off (a complaint about other ovens). It has a nice slide out crumb tray that has access from the front with the oven door close - this makes it very easy to empty.Nicely toasted our first bagel in just a few minutes and it was very evenly browned, something our regular toaster did not do well at all.

Pros
Gets hot fast
Basic controls work well
Easy access crumb tray
Even toasting and heating

Cons
Not many
The top and sides do get hot so don't store anything on this!
